Ongoing Exploration

Typography Experiments

A living collection of typographic explorations examining letterform, motion, hierarchy, and the expressive potential of text. These experiments inform my approach to visual communication across all design work.

Approach

Every letterform carries meaning beyond its phonetic value. These experiments explore type as material — something to be shaped, animated, and composed with intention.

Tools

Variable fonts, CSS custom properties, After Effects, Figma, and occasionally hand-drawn studies. The medium follows the question being asked.

Application

Insights from these explorations feed directly into client work — informing typographic choices, motion design, and visual hierarchy decisions.

Ongoing Studies

01

Kinetic Letterforms

Exploring motion principles applied to individual letterforms. Each character becomes an animated object with weight, tension, and rhythm.

02

Modular Type Systems

Building typefaces from geometric primitives. Investigating how constraint breeds creativity in letterform construction.

Responsive Typography

Fluid type scales and variable font axes responding to viewport, scroll position, and user interaction.

Typographic Hierarchy Studies

Systematic explorations of scale, weight, and spatial relationships in editorial layouts.

Hierarchy Studies

Study 01 — Scale Contrast

Headline

Supporting text provides context and draws the reader into the content.

Body copy at 14px with generous line height creates comfortable reading rhythm for extended passages.

Study 02 — Weight Progression

900 Black — Maximum Impact

700 Bold — Strong Emphasis

600 Semibold — Subtle Strength

500 Medium — Balanced

400 Regular — Quiet Foundation

300 Light — Whisper

Study 03 — Tracking Variations

Tight tracking for headlines creates density and impact

Default tracking maintains neutral readability

Wide tracking opens space and adds formality

Extended tracking for small caps and labels

Typography is fundamental to how I approach all design work. These ongoing experiments sharpen the eye and inform every project.
